About The Role

We are looking for a Staff Engineer to join our Platform team that creates the foundation that allows our entire engineering organisation to move fast. This means building shared tooling, managing migrations (including our move from a Ruby monolith), and evolving our infrastructure.

This is a senior leadership role for a deeply technical leader who combines strong backend and infrastructure expertise with the ability to build and scale high-performing teams. You will be responsible for the architecture, reliability, and performance of all backend systems powering Wheely’s platform.

You will work closely with product, data, and infrastructure leaders to ensure our systems are fast, resilient, and scalable — enabling us to deliver the most reliable and premium ride-hailing experience in the world.

Responsibilities

  • Define the technical vision, architecture, and standards across backend systems
  • Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance at global consumer scale
  • Make high-quality architectural decisions across distributed systems, APIs, and data infrastructure
  • Improve system performance, latency, and fault tolerance
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and engineering excellence
  • Support domain-based team structures (e.g. pricing, matching, supply engagement)

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with strong backend expertise
  • Proven track record of designing and operating large-scale distributed systems
  • Deep understanding of backend architecture, infrastructure, and platform concerns
  • High technical judgment and attention to detail
  • Experience in consumer-scale products or marketplaces
  • Background in performance-critical systems (low latency, high availability)

Senior / Middle Ruby SDE with Python and Go

We are looking for strong Senior / Middle Software Development Engineers for a coding-heavy automated dependency management project at a developer platform company. The tool monitors outdated or vulnerable packages and creates pull requests to update them across multiple package ecosystems. The exact scope between the open-source tool and the platform remains to be confirmed.

Requirements:

  • Strong hands-on coding and readiness to contribute from day one; practical coding ability matters more than years of experience;

  • Ruby proficiency and ability to work with Go and Python;

  • Confident everyday use of AI coding tools, including GitHub Copilot and agentic workflows;

  • Git/GitHub workflows, including pull requests, code review and CI with GitHub Actions;

  • Independent delivery, ownership of substantial work and good English for meetings, pull requests and issues.


Responsibilities:

  • Contribute hands-on development to automated dependency management tooling;

  • Work across languages and package ecosystems to support dependency updates;

  • Collaborate through pull requests, code review and CI workflows;

  • Take ownership of development tasks and ramp up quickly.


Nice to Have:

  • Knowledge of package managers and ecosystems, including Bundler, npm/yarn, pip/Poetry, Go modules, Maven/Gradle, NuGet and Cargo;

  • Experience with dependency management, semantic versioning and supply-chain security, including CVE/advisories;

  • Docker;

  • Open-source contributions, especially to relevant developer-platform or dependency-management repositories.


Working Conditions:

  • Overlap: until 11 AM / 12 PM PT (Eastern Europe timezone works);

  • Target start: ASAP. A couple of engineers who can start in 3-4 weeks and ramp up quickly; the rest can come in a second wave.
